Charities helped with year of golf

Gophers Charity Golf gives social and novice golfers the opportunity to play in a monthly golf league with regular golfers, thus fostering the sport.

Eighty four players participated in their final league games at Lydenburg Golf Club on Sunday November 29.
Gophers would like to thank Tech North, Atlas Panel Beaters, Nomakanjani Fire Equipment and Longtom SUPERSPAR for their financial support, as well as the Lydenburg, Pilgrim’s Rest and Sabie golf clubs which hosted the league games at a reduced rate.
Thank you to all the golfers who attended the annual tour to Skukuza Golf Club in September. It enabled them to add a substantial amount to the charity fund.
The following organisations
and individuals received
assistance from the 2020
Gophers Charity Fund:
• Chris (Geitjie) Visser, her car was fitted with hand controls to enable her to drive to work and back after her right leg was amputated due to medical reasons.
• The Step Foundation received a grant to assist in the purchasing of food, clothing, medical supplies and social counselling for local street people who are dependent on the foundation for survival.
• Alwyn Loots received SPAR food vouchers to assist him in the costs of his recent relocation to Dullstroom for his appointment at Highlands Gate Golf Club.
• Samson Ngobe, Thaba Chweu regional maintenance manager, received a promissory note from Gophers to repair the communal laundry equipment for the pensioners at Kiepersol Retirement Village in Lydenburg.
Jaco Potgieter and Jess Roos were the two main winners for 2020.
The results of the day were Peter Loots (first), Cabous Rademeyer (second), Jaco Potgieter (third), Piet van Vuuren (fourth), Johan Vorster (fifth), and the two nearest the pin prizes went to Andre van der Veen and Douglass Westcott.
