Mampuru, of the BaPedi ba Mamone royal family, succumbed to a short illness on Wednesday.
JANE FURSE – Just a few days after the burial of the king of the BaPedi, Kgoshikgolo Victor Thulare III, the royal
house in Sekhukhune mourns again. His Majesty Kgoshi Billy Malekutu Mampuru III has passed away.
Mampuru, of the BaPedi ba Mamone royal family, succumbed to a short illness on Wednesday. The news of his death shattered locals still mourning the untimely death of the king. Limpopo’s premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha said it does not rain, but it pours.
“Once again it is with a heavy heart that I send my heartfelt and deepest condolences to the Mampuru family, relatives, the House of Traditional Leaders, Contralesa and Bapedi ba Mamone Traditional Authority.
“Once again, a dark cloud has enveloped the province. No words can express how I feel. The institution of traditional leadership in our province is being ripped apart by death,” said Mathabatha.
He called upon the entire executive council and all affected to respect and mourn the late member of the royalty in a manner befitting his status.
“He was a humble, innovative and development-oriented leader. A true champion of rural development is
no more.”
The cause of his death was not yet confirmed. Mampuru becomes the third traditional leader to die in recent weeks.
The chief of the Mandebele in Moletlane Zebediela, Kgoshi Sello Kekana III, also passed away after a short illness a
