MEC honours top-performing principals

Boshielo undertook to engage principals of schools that performed the best in the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, following her announcement of the province's results in February.

SEKHUKHUNE – The Limpopo MEC for education, Polly Boshielo, congratulated principals who had performed outstandingly for the 2020 matric results at a session at the Ranch Hotel on Tuesday.

Boshielo undertook to engage principals of schools that performed the best in the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, following her announcement of the province’s results in February.

The MEC met with principals of the top 50 performing schools to congratulate them on their outstanding performance and provide them a platform to share their best practices.

“What makes us appreciate the class of 2020 more is that despite the decline in the provincial pass rate, they have given the province more quality in comparison to the Class of 2019. Some 22 907 candidates achieved bachelor passes compared to the 19 022 of the Class of 2019, which translates to an increase of 29,1 per cent.

The diploma passes increased from 18 558 in 2019 to 18 588 in 2020.

“Overall, 53 634 of the 78 695 candidates passed the 2020 NSC examinations.

A total of 16 044 distinctions were achieved in various subjects, of which 10 344 were achieved by female candidates.
“This achievement, during a time when candidates lost valuable teaching and learning time due to the pandemic, is worth applauding,” said Boshielo. The top-performing principals were rewarded with certificates and trophies for excellence.
