Over 35kg of dagga found stashed during police drug bust

Sarah Masilela (39) was arrested on Wednesday April 21 for possession of cannabis.

The arrest followed a tip-off by a reliable source to members of the Lydenburg K9, who were informed of the storage of cannabis in a particular house in Mashishing. Upon searching, the members found five black bags full of dagga, weighing 36,35 kilogram. The suspect appeared in the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on Thursday April 22.
“The Lydenburg SAPS members are tirelessly fighting crime with the support of the community. We will clamp down on illegal substances,” said Capt Kaizer Moela, spokesperson for Lydenburg SAPS.  He said Faan immediately went to his neighbours as the attackers had allegedly stolen their cell phones and he could not call anyone for help. The police and Hi-Tech were then called out to the scene along with Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) to process the scene. It is believed that the attack had been a robbery gone wrong and some of the stolen items were found in the field between the house and the fence, which had allegedly been cut by the attackers.
