BURGERSFORT – A local attorney and a member of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania briefly appeared before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Friday on 15 charges of fraud and 15 counts of theft.
According to the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Gauteng region, Lumka Mahanjana, Nkoemakae Mola (42) of Mola Attorneys was arrested by police at his house in Alverton outside Burgersfort on July 6.
“The accused allegedly defrauded potential house buyers and swindled them an amount of over R2 million by
pretending to be the lawyer handling the sale of a property.
“It is alleged that he acted on false pretenses, asking potential buyers to deposit a certain amount of money into
Mola Attorneys’ bank account. When the money reflected in Mola Attorneys’ account it is alleged that he would
transfer the money to his private personal account,” said Mahanjana in a media statement forwarded to the paper.
The NPA said several criminal cases were opened against Mola. Mola was scheduled to reappear before
the court on Monday July 12 for formal bail application.
“Due to the unrest the matter was remanded to July 16,” revealed the NPA.
