Mashishing to be made green

A new project aimed at planting 720 trees within 10 days was launched on Wednesday August 4.

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, has embarked on a project to make Mashishing green. The trees will accentuate the beauty of the area and also provide food for households. Fig trees and grapevines will be planted as they are better responsive to the climate conditions of Mashishing and Lydenburg.

A total of 22 young people were appointed and will receive a daily wage for planting the trees. They were welcomed and thanked by the officials of the various departments.
Thando Kobese of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said how important this project was, and David Mkhabela of the Expanded Public Works Programme laid out what TCLM hoped to achieve with it.
