Dance school welcomes new instructor
The Rosemarie Middleton Dance Centre (RMDC) recently welcomed Brendan McLaren to the team.
McLaren started dancing when he could walk. He trained with Rosemarie Middleton at her studio in Johannesburg until he started his studies in performing arts at the University of Cape Town. After graduation, he proceeded to dance with the Cape Town Ballet Company. He quickly became a soloist and is a certified professional dancer, choreographer and instructor.

McLaren was employed as a corps de ballet member after his studies and promoted to the first soloist under the directorship of Veronica Paeper. Some of his experience stretches from both soloist and principal roles in Israel and well-known productions, such as Crassus in Spartacus, Basilio in Don Quixote, Franz in Coppelia, the prince in Nutcracker, and Swan Lake. In addition to his professional credentials at the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, the rest of his dancing career and as an international instructor is widespread. He also worked in the corporate world. McLaren brings an array of new dance genres to RMDC. They are excited to offer teenage and adult couples dance classes. Kim Middleton, also an instructor at RMDC, is McLaren’s dance partner and team member for the couples’ classes.

They have been competing as a team in different genres since they were children. The other genres are line dancing (all ages), adult ballet (women and men) and BalletRIP (60-minute cardio dance sequence routine workouts). All the RMDC favourites, such as ballet, modern dance, tap and hip-hop, are still on the table. RMDC envisions the introduction of additional adult classes, for example, jazz, burlesque, folk, musical theatre and others. For further information, contact Rosemarie on 082 330 2155.
