Removal of trucks continues on the R555

The recovery and removal of trucks on the busy R555 by the SAPS and breakdown companies continued this morning.

The road had been blocked by disgruntled community members since early this morning.

They are demanding employment and business opportunities from the local mines. Currently, small vehicles can pass on the road. Steelburger/Lydenburg News has learned that the protesters at times demand money to allow some of the vehicles to pass on the R555.

The community members sometimes use debris and rubbles to block the roads leading to the mines. This has been continuing for the past two weeks.

Motorists are urged to be patient as there is lot of traffic piled up on the R555.
