MECKLENBURG – The Limpopo Department of Health (DoH) is investigating an incident in which a woman was found hanging from the ceiling inside the Mecklenburg Hospital ward toilets.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning. According to the department, the woman was staying at the hospital as her three-month-old baby had been admitted.

“It is understood that in the early hours of the morning, she had told one of the patients that she was going to the bathroom.

“Later on nurses came looking for her because her toddler was crying and needed attention. They could not find her in her room and were directed to the bathroom. She was discovered hanging from the ceiling inside the toilet,” said Neil Shikwambana, Limpopo health department’s spokesperson.

He confirmed that the Mecklenburg SAPS had been called to the scene and they are also conducting their own investigations. The DoH has organised counselling for the family members, and staff who were with her prior to the incident.

The department has also sent messages of condolences to the family.
