6 best snacks for children on the move
Packing healthy snacks for your child is an easy way to limit stops and get to your destination a little quicker.
Are you hitting the road with your kids for the upcoming Easter long weekend? Plan ahead! These healthy and simple travel snacks are all easy to keep and carry, filled with nutritious ingredients, and appealing to even the pickiest eaters!
1. Whole fruit
Whole fruit like banana is a great snack choice for kids on the move. Bananas are rich in fibre, which helps keep you feeling fuller for longer. They’re also loaded with nutrients and boast potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, B6, manganese plus many more!
2. Granola Bars are a delicious snack
Granola bars that are low in sugar and high in fibre are an excellent way to increase your children’s nutrient consumption. In addition, bars are much easier to eat than traditional granola.
3. Nut Butter
When it comes to snack time, nut butters are a great way to boost protein. Decanter nut butter into smaller plastic jars and serve to your child with a plastic spoon.
4. Trail Mix with a sweet and salty twist
Combine 1 cup of cereal, 1 cup of yogurt-covered raisins, and 1 cup of chopped walnuts in a large mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly and keep in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag to prevent bacterial growth.
5. Truffles made from cereal
Combine 1 cup almond butter (or other nut butter), 1 cup honey, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 2 cups brown rice cereal (or Rice Krispies), and 1 cup unsweetened coconut in a large mixing bowl until well combined. Form into balls and roll them in 1 cup of chopped sunflower seeds to coat completely. Lay out the truffles on a baking sheet lined with wax paper and freeze until solid (about 30 minutes). Place the truffles in an airtight container and set them aside to thaw while on your journey.
6. Pinwheels made with cream cheese and jam
Using layers of cream cheese and your child’s favourite jam, spread a wrap and coil it up, then cut it into one-inch pieces that appear like pinwheels when viewed from the side. Place the contents in an airtight container.
