The youth and the not so young of Tubatse enjoy sporting games

Tubatse Youth Unemployment Forum (TYUF) remembered Riba Cross’s fallen hero Thabang “TT” Maupa by organising a sporting extravaganza recently at Lehlaba Sports Grounds.
Hundreds of sports lovers from all corners of Tubatse attend the games.
Participants competed in soccer, netball and chess. The winners received cash prizes and trophies.
In soccer, the team that vanquished were Kings FC. They defeated Home Sweepers FC 4-2 on penalties after the two teams drew 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.
The chess competition was won by Thabiso Mokoena who defeated his namesake Excellent Mokoena in the final.
In netball, Mooi Mosie walloped Panthers 22-4. Before the soccer finals, the crowd witnessed Bakgekolo Bakgekolo (grannies’ soccer teams) showcase their soccer skills.
TYUF thanked all businesses and sponsors who supported the sporting day.
“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. With this event we declared war against crime and revived the love for sport in our communities,” said Moses Makgoga of TYUF.
Tumelo Riba and Lekula Mosoma, who were among the organisers, added, “This will be an annual event. We urge our youths to participate in sporting activities and to refrain from using drugs and alcohol”.
The Maupa family, his friends and former colleagues attended the event. Maupa, who was a Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality councillor, was killed by gunmen in November 2018.
His killers were handed life sentences by the Limpopo High Court in September 2022.
