The company donated much-needed supplies to elderly residents in Ward 7 of the Emakhazeni Local Municipality.
Mandela Day holds deep meaning for many South Africans – a time to reflect, give back, and honour the legacy of service that Nelson Mandela inspired. For Sappi Southern Africa, it’s more than a symbolic gesture; it’s a catalyst for ongoing community care and a reminder that meaningful action should extend beyond a single day.
This year, Sappi Ngodwana Mill partnered with the Ngodwana Integrated Community Forum (ICF) CSI sub-committee, convened by Owen Mnisi, to host a Mandela Day outreach at Khayalami Centre in Waterval Boven. The centre, which supports elderly residents in Ward 7 of the Emakhazeni Local Municipality, received hygiene packs, kitchen equipment, a new vegetable garden, and much-needed renovations – delivered with enthusiasm by the Sappi team.
Across the region, Sappi Forests teams echoed the theme ‘Make Every Day a Mandela Day’. In Mahushu, the Graskop District joined Siyavuka Forestry and ESD contractors to uplift Masoyi Home Based Care, a vital NGO supporting vulnerable children. Upgrades included structural repairs, a JoJo tank, ceiling boards, and educational resources.
In Badplaas, Ndubazi District employees dedicated their 67 minutes to Sinethemba ECD – planting vegetables, painting playgrounds, and donating toys and food parcels for over 100 children.
Mandela Day is a moment, but the impact is ongoing. Through platforms like the ICF, Sappi continues to co-create programmes rooted in local priorities – ensuring that Madiba’s legacy lives on through sustained action.
