Hendrina residents, police clamp down on crime

Drug paraphernalia, cocaine and ‘Black Dollars’ were found during a raid in Hendrina where the houses of drug dealers and a brothel were targeted.

The Hendrina police, together with members of the radio group and security companies, made a surprise visit to the houses on Tuesday night, in what made part of Operation Festive Season, launched by the Middelburg cluster.

Three houses were raided. At the first house, three Nigerian nationals, Chigibere Mavufor, Chinedu Ochukwu and Ameka Edwin were arrested on drug related charges. They appeared in court yesterday (Thursday).

It is suspected that the occupants of the first house alerted the occupants of other houses, because police found the second house deserted. A member of the radio group said that he happened to look into the ceiling, where he saw a door handle lying.

When he tried to pick it up, he found it was attached to a string which in turn was tied to a empty Vaseline bottle. Inside was a bag, containing what is suspected to be cocaine.

They also discovered a heavy box filled with what looked like plastic film. It turns out that they have discovered ‘Black Money’, money being used in scams to convince victims that they can ‘wash’ money out of plastic using certain chemicals.

The third and last house visited by the group was found locked. Hordes of used condoms were seen lying around on the grass outside the house.

The evidence has since been booked into the SAP 13 as investigations continue.
