Two stolen cars traced in one day

In an astonishing turn of events, www.mobserver.co.za succeeded in tracing two stolen cars, with the help of vigilant South Africans this week.

Early Tuesday morning, the paper received a call from Samekoms resident, Ms Maya van den Berg, who spotted a suspicious red Corsa Lite parked next to a gravel road in the rural backside of Mhluzi township.

She said the car had been there since Monday morning, windows wined down. On closer inspection she found hand cream and other articles which led her to believe that the car belonged to a woman.

She took pictures of the vehicle and handed them to www.mobserver.co.za.

We phoned the police, who immediately confirmed that the car belonged to Ms Miempie Meyer, who was tied up and robbed during a house invasion in Walter Sisulu Street around 11:00 on Monday.

Mhluzi police were notified and www.mobserver.co.za assisted them with directions to the scene, where Ms Meyer’s vehicle was recovered without damages.

• On Tuesday afternoon, yet another vigilant South African, Mr Sibusiso Makamole, assisted www.mobserver.co.za and local police, to trace a stolen Golf.

Mr Makamole, a team leader of the SAPS’s Specialised Task Forces, shared one of his friends, Mr Mesh Kekana’s Facebook posts, about an abandoned car parked in front of his house in Temba, Hammanskraal.

Mr Makamole shared the post on Stolen Cars RSA, in an effort to help trace the owner. The post reached www.mobserver.co.za who contacted both men.

It was established that the vehicle was registered in the name of Middelburg business, Premier Attraction situated in Cowen Ntuli Street.

Middelburg SAPS immediately sent someone to the business, where they were informed that the car was one of a few business assets sold off to private individuals.

According to the Temba SAPS the registration number of the car does not show up on any of its systems, but the car could have been reported hijacked or stolen at another station.

Constable Moremi, who www.mobserver.co.za spoke to, said he has not circulated the registration number by the time of print, due to police systems being offline.

He was supplied with the contact details for both Mr Makamole and Mr Kekana for further investigation.
