Update: Dennesig loses three pupils

"We just sat in class the whole day, no one went to eat or play after we heard the painful news of the passing of Lwazi. " said Mzisi Mahlangu (10), classmate and best friend of late Lwazi Nkosi.

It was a dark day at Dennesig Primary School when pupils were told of the accident that occurred on Friday night, where a speeding car was sliced into two when it drove into a tree at 180 km per hour.

Counsellors had to be made available on Monday for the Grade 4 class after they were informed about the accident and that the deceased were pupils from the school. The children were traumatized and had to be monitored intensively.

Mzisi Mahlangu, close friend to Lwazi, was traumatised since Monday according to his mom, even after school.

“He loved cars, we always spoke about cars,” said Msizi.

“He always made jokes in class and we laughed. I remember during breaks he would only want to eat a pie or a chicken burger.”

“I will miss my best friend.”

Lwazi (10), Lethu (7), and Minehle (5) together with their father Sphiwe Nkosi on that fateful Friday evening were driving from Steers to the Engen garage where they met up with neighbour, Joe Magagala (39), who had just upgraded to a brand new Golf 7.

Lwazi saw his friend Lefa Magagula in the car with his family and jumped out to join them, the two girls then followed him.

The car then drove off in normal speed with the four children on an innocent test drive.

“I just saw ambulances passing in high speed, we followed the emergency vehicle after Magagula’s wife advised me that her husband was tired,” said Mr Nkosi.

When approaching the scene a father’s worst nightmare was confirmed.

“I saw the car sliced into two, it felt so unreal, I thought about my kids first. I saw two children laying outside and two others trapped inside the car. The worst was when I was asked to identify them on the gruesome scene.

“The house is gonna be so lonely. They always greeted me when I got home from work, they did the same to visitors,” said Mr Nkosi.

“The car must have lost control at the curve,” Captain Zwane of SAPS revealed.

The three children were declared dead on the scene, the driver died in hospital and Lefa Magagula is recovering at the Life Midmed hospitals ICU.

•Bystanders on the scene said that the driver had a bottle of alcohol between his legs at the time of the accident.

•According to the Top Gear website the Performance Pack of the Golf 7 GTI adds some extra kindling by generating an additional 7 kW than the previous one.

•The Observer reported in 2013 on an accident at the same spot. Mr Hennie Ferreira (50) drove into the same tree and his car was also ripped into two. He burnt to death in his Volvo.

People took to Facebook to express their condolences and thoughts on the accident.

•Mpho Sgegede Nhlapo: “Golf 7 performance pack. They call it a fast moving coffin. I saw it crashing five of its passengers to death on the Stoffberg road last year. Uzafa nya (you will die ).”

•Jenny Lee Havemann: “Aai, So Sad, Sympathy goes to all the Families involved ‘frown emoticon””

•Marina Holzhauzen: “Ons almal se harte is seer vir die mense. Dis tragies”.

Lwazi, Minehle and Lethu will be buried on Saturday in Mhluzi.

They leave behind both their parents, grandmother and a brother (14) and sister (12).
