N4 listed as high-risk road

Middelburg’s N4 has been listed as one of South Africa’s most dangerous roads this festive season.

According to an article posted by CarMag, the N4 has been identified as a high-risk road, susceptible to fatal accidents and hijackings.

The article listed the N4 alongside other roads, like the R573 Moloto Road in KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, France van Zyl Drive near Parow in the Western Cape, and the N2 near Port Shepstone in KwaZulu-Natal.

CarMag also highlighted the increased risk times from Thursday to Sunday during the hours of 16:00-23:00.

• This follows the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality highlighting dangerous roads in Middelburg following several accidents that have occurred in recent weeks.
The roads include the Loskop road (N11), the intersection of Walter Sisulu- and Oranje Street, the intersection of Cowen Ntuli Street and Dr Mandela Drive, and the Hendrina road (N11).
On Saturday, a young child lost her life, and two adults succumbed to their injuries later in the hospital following a crash on the deadly N4.
