Investigators hope identikit of suicide victim may lead to identification

There are still no answers regarding the body found hanging in a tree next to the N4 a fortnight ago.

The nameless suicide victim meanwhile inspired local artist Fransie Venter to draw an identikit of the victim from photos taken on the scene, with the hope that the drawing would lead to an identification.

The body of the man with short-cropped hair was found two weeks ago by a domestic helper employed on the farm of the late Dolf Rossouw.

The employee stumbled upon the body while collecting wood in a Eucalyptus plantation situated between the Middelburg Toll Plaza and weighbridge en route to Middelburg.

A tog bag found next to the body contained a Bible with a cellphone number, which law enforcement called.
The man who answered the phone told investigators he gave the deceased a lift to Nelspruit from Barberton three years ago.

According to the man, the deceased introduced himself as “Ashley”.
The man could also recall that the deceased supplied a double-barrel last name, but couldn’t remember it.

The informant told the police that the deceased was heading to Nelspruit from Barberton to visit family.

The middle-aged man had a manicured moustache and was wearing a neat black jacket, black trousers and brown shoes when his body was recovered.

The body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

The police request anyone who can identify the deceased with the identikit supplied, to contact their nearest police station, or the Middelburg detective branch on 013 249 1611.
