Police praised for breakthrough in Dullstroom murder of Protea bass angler John Wickham

There's been a commendable breakthrough in the murder investigation of Protea bass angling pro John Wickham, with the arrest of two Mozambicans in Gauteng.

Mr Wickham was shot and killed at a Dullstroom guest house on November 26 last year, while protecting his wife Magda from two armed invaders at their holiday cottage.
He was struck at least three times while fighting their attackers off.

He collapsed outside the cottage and was rushed to Belfast Hospital, more than 30 km away from Dullstroom, by friends who gathered at the guest house where the SA Bass Angling management committee met to plan their activities for 2024.

The first suspect was arrested in early January, followed by the arrest of the second in Cullinan this week.
A firearm, believed to be the murder weapon, was also recovered and has been sent for ballistic analysis.

Both suspects are from Mozambique and it is alleged that they are in the country illegally.

Wickham’s loved ones heaped praises on the arresting officers for the sterling detective work that resulted in the breakthrough.

The suspects are expected to appear on murder, weapons and immigrations charges.
