Man killed on N4 accident scene identified

The man who was killed after his stationary vehicle was struck by a heavy motor vehicle on the N4 near Middelburg Dam, has been identified.

Mbongiseni Colin Zwane (31) was killed after his work vehicle broke down in the emergency lane on the N4 last Friday shortly before 07:00, after which a truck collided with his bakkie.

Initial reports suggested that Mbongiseni was seen walking around the scene, and later collapsing due to his injuries. It was later confirmed, however, that he was standing in front of his broken-down bakkie and speaking on the phone to a colleague when the truck crashed into his bakkie.

Mbongiseni was then flung into the air and died on the scene.

Mbongiseni comes from Elukwatini in the Badplaas area, where he also worked as a mechanic.

According to Mbongiseni’s brother, Meshack Zwane, his 30-year-old brother was the only breadwinner in a family of two parents and five brothers, “He was a good guy. We will miss him because he was a friendly and open man. He was also very social and well-known and got along well with other people. We are also saddened by his loss because we depended on him financially,” said Meshack.

Mbongiseni is survived by his parents, Solly and Thembi, as well as his five brothers, Meshack, Siyanda, Majaha, Chris and Banele.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday in Tjakastad, Mabovini.
