WATCH: Middelburg hit hard by flooding – Roads damaged, dam wall overflowing

Motorists are still urged to proceed with caution when travelling on certain roads, particularly Oranje Street, as a portion of the road next to Tarries Park has collapsed.

Large swathes of Middelburg were overwhelmed with rain this morning; as such, the Middelburg Observer travelled to different parts of town to document the flooding and damage.

As seen in the video above, a car’s detached bumper can be seen laying by the affected area.

Despite rumblings that the Kruger Dam wall had broken, DA Councillor Hennie Niemann has assured the Middelburg Observer that this is not the case.

He said that there is a very irregular amount of water flowing over the dam’s wall, but stated that it is still intact. However, Niemann did say that intake to the Kruger Dam Waterworks is underwater.

A video was also sent to the Observer by a member of the public walking along the Kruger Dam wall to ease worries it had been destroyed in the floods.
