Newborn baby and foetus found in separate gruesome discoveries

Two horrifying discoveries were made on Thursday when the decomposed body of a full-term newborn boy was found buried in a shallow grave in Mhluzi, and a foetus was discovered at the Tokologo dumping site. Police have launched separate investigations and are appealing to the public for information.

Two separate and deeply disturbing discoveries shocked the Mhluzi community on Thursday after the body of a full-term newborn baby boy and, in an unrelated incident, a foetus were found.

The first incident occurred in Extension 2, Mhluzi, where neighbours became concerned after realising that a woman known to be pregnant did not have a baby with her. They alerted the police, who searched the property and found the newborn buried in a shallow grave. The baby was already in an advanced state of decomposition, suggesting he may have been buried for two or more weeks.

At this stage, it is uncertain if the baby was dead or alive when he was buried in the shallow grave.

In a separate incident on the same day, a foetus was found discarded at the Tokologo dumping site.

Police have made no arrests. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or provide anonymous tips through the MYSAPS App.

• In January 2024, a foetus was also discovered at the dumping site in Nasaret.
