Remember with us the online stories of December

December is supposed to be a happy month as it is a festive time, but in Middelburg, it was a sad month for several families.

The four tragic drownings in less than 24 hours shook the whole Middelburg community.

Three women from a church prayer group were swept away by rising water in the Klein Olifants River near the R104 train bridge, and later recovered downstream. The victims included a mother, her sister, and another woman from the group. The same weekend, a 20-year-old man drowned at Athlone Dam. Rescue teams and families faced harrowing conditions, and the incidents have left Middelburg grieving deeply.
