Town hit by flooding after more than 100mm of rain overnight

Hail hits Dennesig and Kanonkop last Sunday

More than 100mm of rain fell on Middelburg last night.
Roads were flooded, and two neighbourhoods were without electricity this morning.
The stormy weather already hit Dennesig and Kanonkop last Sunday, with a hailstorm turning gardens into a white blanket.
Motorists this morning were asked to avoid Koets, Weeber, Suid, and Hoog streets.
Cowen Ntuli Street at Case and Isuzu was also reported to be flooded.
The Middelburg Dam is 100% full, and one of the sluice gates was opened this morning. The Klein Olifants River will be flooded later this morning.
The Middelburg Country Club has informed its members that the golf course is closed until further notice. A decision will be made at 10:00 when the course will be playable again.
Residents at the Rondebosch plots have expressed their concerns on a WhatsApp group about streams of water flowing from the Medina Abattoir. The abattoir has been asked for comment, and an update will be shared as soon as a response is received.
Dennesig and Kanonkop’s power was out for two hours from just after 05:00 this morning, but has since been restored.
