Body of Sekhukhune nurse found under bridge

The body of a male nurse working at Jane Furse Hospital, who was kidnapped on March 16, has been found.

Morudi Frank Phetla (64) was found on Monday under a bridge in Mabintane Village.

Phetla was reportedly kidnapped on March 16, as he was about to enter his residence in Zamani Section, Jane Furse, at around 19:00.

Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesman, said the deceased’s vehicle was found idling, with head lights still on when he disappeared.

Thakeng confirmed that a case of kidnapping was initially registered for further investigation. Police are now investigating murder.

Phetla’s body was found with head injuries the following day at about 6:30 by a cattle herder near Motsephiri River.

The deceased was formally identified by family.  Thakeng said the motive for the killing is unknown and investigations are ongoing.

Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Mayor Merah Mahlase has sent condolences to the Phetla family.

Mahlase called on the SAPS to speed up investigations and arrest those responsible for Phetla’s kidnapping and murder.
