Minister makes surprise visit to St Rita’s Hospital

The health minister announced plans to bring new leadership to St. Rita’s Hospital to ensure improved service delivery.

Following complaints about services at St Rita’s Hospital, Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi visited the facility in Glen Cowie Village on Tuesday.

The minister was accompanied by Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego.

Motsoaledi said the unannounced visit was due to a public outcry regarding the state of the hospital, and expressed dissatisfaction over several issues, including cleanliness and health workers’ identification, calling on them to wear uniforms and name tags at all times to be easily identified.

The minister announced plans to bring new leadership to the hospital to ensure services are improved.

Ramathuba welcomed the minister’s visit, emphasising the significance of leaders getting first-hand experience on how government institutions work.

She indicated Mashego will be visiting various health facilities throughout the province to monitor performance and provide support.
