High-speed chase leads to R110 000 drug bust
Man arrested near Siyabuswa after he was found in possession of drugs worth an estimated R110 000.
Members of SAPS Siyabuswa nabbed a 44-year-old man for possession of suspected crystal meth while they were patrolling the R568 between Siyabuswa and Maphotla Village on Friday at about 04:00.
According to Mpumalanga Provincial Police spokesperson Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, the arrest followed after the police spotted a white Nissan NP 200 bakkie with a Gauteng registration number, which the suspect was driving in.
Nonyane-Mpe said the suspect was cornered and arrested following a high-speed chase.
“Upon searching the vehicle, the members discovered two containers with a white powder, suspected to be crystal meth. The estimated street value of the recovered substance is about R110 000. The vehicle was seized as part of a police investigation,” Nonyane-Mpe explained.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS Mpumalanga Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi lauded the police for their swift response and vigilance.
Mkhwanazi described the arrest and recovery of the substance as a significant blow to illicit drug trafficking in the province.
The man is expected to appear before the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).
