Vlakfontein Library scoops multiple honours at provincial awards
Award-winning service at Vlakfontein Library is being celebrated by the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality after the facility secured several honours at the Limpopo Library Awards.
The Vlakfontein Library has made the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality proud after scooping several accolades at the recent provincial Library Awards hosted by the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
The library walked away with awards for Best Public Library, Best Librarian, Overall Best Community Library, Overall Best Librarian, and third place in the Community Outreach category.
Senior managers from the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, led by Municipal Manager Reginah Mahlakwane, visited the library last Thursday to congratulate staff and acknowledge their hard work.
Mahlakwane commended the team for their dedication and commitment to serving the community.
“The awards demonstrate the impact of hard work and teamwork in promoting education, literacy, and access to information,” she said.
Municipal spokesperson Simon Makua said the visit was aimed at recognising the team’s efforts and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.
“The visit served as a gesture of recognition and encouragement, celebrating the team’s success and inspiring the staff to continue delivering excellent library services,” Makua said.
Mayor David Tladi also praised the library staff, highlighting the important role libraries play in communities.
“Libraries are safe and empowering spaces where community members, especially the youth, can gain knowledge and develop themselves instead of frequenting taverns,” he said.
The municipality also expressed appreciation to the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture for its continued support of library services.
Makua added that the awards reflect the municipality’s commitment to promoting reading, learning, and community development.
Rosina Madinoge of Sekhukhune District Libraries and Rachael Malatjie of Vhembe District Libraries were jointly awarded third place as Best District Librarians.
The two library and information services professionals were recognised for demonstrating excellent standards, outstanding library and information service skills and strong professional support to community librarians in their districts.
They are responsible for supervising community librarians, providing administrative support at district level, monitoring end-user services and supporting special library projects.
