Court escapee rearrested

The fugitive was recaptured in Mabintane Village after police acted on information received and launched a search operation.

One of the four prisoners who escaped custody while awaiting trial at the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday afternoon is back behind bars, while a manhunt for the remaining suspects continues.

According to the Limpopo police, the four suspects were among eight prisoners being escorted back to the Masemola Police Station after court proceedings.

The escape occurred at about 15:50.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police officers, security personnel, detectives, tracking teams, and Visible Policing members immediately launched a search operation in the surrounding area.

Information received by police led officers to Mabintane Village, where one of the escapees, Sithole Courage Chingwedere (19), was rearrested later the same day.
