NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION AND WATER USE AUTHORISATION FOR THE PROPOSED NAMANE ENERGY FACILITY 2026/04
Notice is hereby given in terms of the 2014 EIA Regulations (as amended in 2017) published in Government Notice R982 under Section 24(5) and 44 of the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA), of the intent to carry out Basic Assessment (BA) processes, in accordance with Listing Notices 1 – 3 (GNR 983 – 985) (as amended) and of the proposed application for Water Use Authorisations in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act (No. 36 of 1998) for the following:
Project Title: Proposed Namane Energy Facility, near Emalahleni, Mpumalanga Province
Project Description: Namane Energy Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd intends to develop an approximately 100 MW photovoltaic solar facility and associated infrastructure. The grid connection will commence at the on-site substation of the Namane Energy Facility (EF) and will connect to the collector substation of the approved Highveld SPP (DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/1/2691). The connection power line will be constructed within the limits of the approved grid connection corridor. The proposed Energy Facility will be constructed on RE/2/279, 7/279, 8 (Portion of Portion 2)/279, 30/279, 47 (Portion of Portion 34)/279, 48/279, and 17/301, Registration Division JS, situated within the eMalahleni Local Municipality. The town of eMalahleni is located approximately 17km to the southeast of the proposed development.
Project Footprint: An area of 469,1 hectares was assessed for the proposed development. The development footprint for the EF, where panels and associated infrastructure will be located, is approximately 201.3 ha in extent. The development footprint for the GCC, where the powerlines and associated infrastructure will be located, is approximately 49.1 ha in extent.
