Here’s something to look forward to…

The third annual Kway MaXi-Race Cape Winelands has been booked for October 1st to 3rd and will now include a shorter 13km route to cater for all levels of trail running.

“More than just a trail race, the Kway MaXi-Race Cape Winelands takes you on a journey, an adventure of self-discovery amongst exquisite and unique landscapes,” says race director Ockie van Zyl.

The event forms part of Maxi-World, the international trail running brand, and features something for everyone, from the 13km Maxi Dash and 45km Maxi Marathon to a 120km Maxi Ultra, with various other distances in between.

However, this run is not just a fitness challenge, says van Zyl. It’s also a charitable event and plays an important role in supporting poor communities along its route.

“Our core values are to be a sustainable race that involves and contributes to the local communities and the environment,” he explains.

To do this, Kway MaXi-Race has partnered with educational charity Edunova to help improve schools in local townships around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, as well as create sustainable employment for those living there (all race marshals will come from the Kylemore community near Stellenbosch). The event will also work in close collaboration with the Franschhoek Wine Valley Conservancythe Banhoek Conservancy and the Stellenbosch Trail Fund.

Initially launched in Annecy, France in 2011, MaXi-Race events are now run in six locations around the world: France, Sicily, Ecuador, China, Madeira and of course South Africa.
