Motorists urged to remain vigilant over bogus cops on the N1 highway off-ramps
Midrand Police Station spokesperson Thabiso Angelina Selowa-Kutu said the bogus cops were operating on various off-ramps on the highway, and that motorists should trust their instincts if pulled over.
Various off-ramps on the N1 North and South in Midrand are becoming hotspots for bogus cops targeting motorists.
Midrand Police Station spokesperson and social crime prevention co-ordinator Sergeant Thabiso Angelina Selowa-Kutu, revealed this to the Midrand Reporter on October 2, further advising motorists to be vigilant of the bogus cops operating in the area, using various unmarked vehicles fitted with blue lights.

“We would like to advise motorists in and around Midrand, especially on the highway off-ramps, of bogus cops.
They need to be extra careful about who stops them.
If they don’t feel safe, it’s best not to stop, but instead drive to the nearest place of safety, such as a garage or shopping complex where there are a lot of people.”
She elaborated that motorists should listen to their instincts, but that did not mean they should not comply with official law enforcement officers.

In 2022, the Allandale Road on-ramp and off-ramp, together with New Road, Le Roux Avenue, and the R55, were flashpoints regarding bogus cops.
They were driving an unmarked White Polo Vivo, Nissan Almera, and a double-cab bakkie.
Now that it seems the lawlessness is back, Selowa-Kutu said police were working around the clock to nab those behind this.
