Bad day for SA riders

South African riders suffered another disappointing day at round 10 of the World Superbike Championship at the Nurburgring yesterday.

In the FIM Superstock 1 000 event multiple South African champion Greg Gildenhuys (BMW Motorrad GoldBet) was 11th in a race won by Leandro Mercado on the Team Pedercini Kawasaki.

Matters were even more dismal in the Supersport race.

Multiple SA champion Sheridan Morais (Goeleven Kawasaki was 18th, Matthew Scholtz (Suriano Suzuki) was 20th and Ronan Quarmby (Prorace Honda) was among the retirements.

British riders shared the honours in the two WSBK races.

In a blanket finish Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) took race one ahead of Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies on BMW Motorrad GoldBet entries.

Davies won the second heat ahead of Eugene Laverty (Aprilia) and Melandri.
