Civic Tourer on its way to SA
The 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show marks the South African premiere of the Honda Civic Tourer, only weeks after its world debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.
Designed, developed and engineered in Europe, the new Civic Tourer combines sleek, aerodynamic lines with a spacious, versatile and practical interior. Exceptional ease of use and class-leading interior space are further key hallmarks.
The Civic Tourer will be offered with an efficient 1,8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that combines economy and low emissions with generous power and torque outputs.
A technical highlight of the new Tourer is the suspension, which features a new rear Adaptive Damper system to enhance stability and comfort under varying load and driving conditions.
Advanced active safety systems further augment the Civic’s established, high safety standards.
The sophisticated and sporty exterior of the Civic Tourer is defined by a bold line that runs continuously from the front A-pillar to the D-pillar, creating the impression of a floating roof line.
The glass of the rear quarter window has been extended to cover the shape of the D-pillar, while the rear door sash has been raised to create an elegant, distinctive look that is refreshingly different from normal estate cars.
The Civic Tourer employs the same centre fuel tank layout as the Civic Hatch. The fuel tank is located under the front seats, allowing the Civic Tourer to offer unparalleled interior space and Honda’s legendary Magic Seat configuration.
It also means that the new estate is able to offer class-leading cargo space.
The cargo area will accommodate three large Samsonite cases with the tonneau cover in place, translating into a generous luggage area with the rear seats up, and even more space with the rear seats folded away.
The height of the loading lip has been reduced by 137 mm compared to the Civic Hatch to facilitate convenient loading.
The Civic Tourer will be offered with Honda’s 1.8 i-VTEC engine, combined with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Rated at 104 kW and 174 Nm, the petrol unit is an impressive performer in economy and emissions terms.
The Civic Tourer is equipped with an innovative rear Adaptive Damper System offering three settings to enhance stability and comfort under varying load and driving conditions. This allows the Civic Tourer to remain comfortable during highway cruising, yet firm and agile when high-performance handling is required.
The Tourer also features a new suite of sensor-based active safety systems, in addition to a comprehensive line-up of traditional active and passive safety systems.
The new Honda Civic Tourer will go on sale in South Africa during the first half of 2014. Final model line-up, specification and pricing will be determined closer to the on-sale date.
