Zwartkops readying itself for Extreme Festival finale

The final regional round of the 2021 Extreme Festival series will be held at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria this Saturday (13 November), with nine separate racing disciplines to conclude their seasons.

Topping the day’s activities will be two races for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars, with Charl Arangies expected to clinch the overall title in his Stradale Ferrari 430.

Other front runners will include Ben Morgenrood (Morgenrood Lexus), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari F430), Pieter Zeelie (Zeelie Auditors Toyota MR2), Greg Parton (Drizit Lamborghini Huracan). Xolile Letlaka (Stradale McLaren 650S), Marius Jackson (MJR Audi R8), Gianni Giannoccaro (BISC Lamborghini Huracan) and Mark du Toit (TAR Ferrari F430).

One of the day’s milestones will be the official retirement of veteran Peter Lindenberg, who will drive his final two races with his Shelby Mustang. He will participate in the Marlboro Crane Hire races for Pre-1969 Sports, and Pre-1966 Legend Saloon Cars.

Others to watch should include Hennie Groenewald (Mercury Comet), James Temple (Daytona Coupe), Djurk Venter (Daytona Coupe), Jonathan du Toit (Chevrolet Nova), Paige Lindenberg (Ford Fairlane), Roger Houston (Alfa Romeo Giulia), Carel Pienaar (Lotus Cortina), Ishmael Baloyi (GSM Dart), Mark van Rooyen (Sunbeam Tiger) and John Ten Doeschate (Protea).

Bob Neil (Delmon Mining Honda Type R) will be a victory favourite in the races for Car Care Clinic 111 vehicles, challenged by Mark du Toit (TAR BMW Z4), Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen Golf GTI), George Economides (Wealth Avenue Volkswagen Golf), Harry Arangies (Vaal Fluids Nissan 350Z), and Adrian Dalton (Xtra Clothing Audi TT).

Close racing should come from the Car Care Clinic SuperHatch brigade, with front runners Brett Garland (AutObarn Honda Civic), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Honda Civic), Andre’ Dannhauser (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Corsa), Melanie Spurr (Car Care Clinic Volkswagen Polo), Lenard Archer (ACD Hyundai Getz) and Shane Forget (Pro Auto Rubber Opel Kadett). 

Rory Atkinson (BHIT Polo) must be the men to beat in the Pozidrive VW Challenge races, chased by the likes of Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Polo), Waldie Meintjies (AllWagen Polo), Bevin Masters (CPS Polo), Dawie van der Merwe (Universal Polo), Sam Dale (Pozidrive Polo) and Stiaan Kriel (T-Rex Polo).

The DOE Formula Vee races should see people like Gert van den Berg (DOE Rhema), Jaco Schriks (Cubed Rhema), Greg Wilson (Forza), Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema), Brandon Hills (Rugged Rhema), Greg Wilson (Forza) and Josef Kotze (Forza) at the front end.

Top Clubmans drivers should include George Economides (Wealth Avenue BMW 328i), Ian Killburn (Collectable Wheels Datsun GX), Dirk Lawrence (JDM Tuning Honda Ballade), Phillip Emmenis (BMW E36), Jannie van Rooyen (Pro Auto Volkswagen Scirocco) and Rodney Kruis (Honda Civic).

Mike Ward (Equirie Zoo Royale), Ben van der Westhuizen (Royale), Colin Clay (Lotus 23C), Alan Grant (Lotus 61) and Alan Kernick (Reynard) should be men to watch in the Historic Single Seater races.

Top runners in the Silver Cup races must include Marius Jacobs (AAA Recovery Opel Tigra), Riaab Draper (Opel Tigra),  Ishmael Peck (Opel Tigra), Juan Otto (Opel Tigra) and Marthinus Viljoen (Volkswagen Golf).

The Zwartkops gates will be open from 07h00, with racing to start at 10h20. Admission will cost R130 per adult and R70 per student, with kids under the age of 12 to go in for free.
