Fast and spectacular drag racing at Tarlton

The Tarlton Raceway near Krugersdorp will host round five of this year's South African Drag Racing championship on Tuesday.

Heading up the day’s spectacle will be two side by side exhibition runs by the Tarlton Jet Cars driven by Nico van Rensburg and Shaun Watson. They will be aiming at top speeds of over 350 km/h, while Swedish driver Dennis Nilsson will test his Top Fuel Dragster and is looking at a five second quarter mile time.

Equally rapid at seven seconds and 300 km/h top speeds will be Top Eliminator category drivers Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel in their A-dragsters, plus Top Alcohol Funny Car racers Werner Conradie and Nico van Rensburg.

The Senior Eliminator category should see more than 20 of the country’s fastest cars in action. Front runners will include Gavin Wilkins (SpeedNSound Mustang), Wessel Oosthuizen (Full Boost Stallion), Hannes Minnaar (Twin Turbo 2JZ Corolla), Kobus Kruger (Super Test) Mazda), Pieter Lombard (Rotary Turbo Rustler), Sybie Coetzee (Datsun) and Marius Oosthuizen in the Budler E30 Turbo BMW.

There will also be racing for cars in the Super Competition, Competition Eliminator and Street Eliminator categories, plus two motorcycle classes.

Tickets will be available from Tarlton’s main gate at R80 per adult and R40 per kid between six and 12. Tarlton offers plenty of free parking, with take-away food and drink available from both sides of the drag strip.

The gates will open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am. For more information contact Nico van Heerden at 011 762 5431 or 083 309 8461.
