Isuzu introduces new course

The Isuzu Off-Road Academy is expanding its off-road driver training offering to include a tougher and more comprehensive two-day advanced 4x4 driving course.

“Our popular training programme has received numerous requests, from people who have undergone basic 4×4 training in the past, for the introduction of a longer, more challenging module. We have responded with the introduction of the new two-day Advanced 4×4 driving course which will offer more intensive training for experienced drivers and avid off-road enthusiasts,” comments Isuzu Off-Road Academy lead instructor, Grant McCleery.

The new advanced course covers vehicle recovery, mechanical knowledge, correct vehicle packing procedures, driving and towing techniques with trailers and caravans – all covered in an intense two-day course, complimenting the existing one-day course which covers 4×4 orientation and basic off-road driving techniques.

Based primarily at the Gerotek test facility west of Pretoria, the Isuzu Off-Road Academy also has the ability to train candidates anywhere in South Africa, even travelling into neighbouring countries where training is a vital tool for the safety and wellbeing of both the people who drive off-road vehicles, as well as the environments in which they operate.

McCleery continues: “Since inception in 2010, the Isuzu Off-Road Academy has successfully trained almost 3 000 4×4 enthusiasts who now have a heightened understanding of how their vehicles operate and indeed how to make best use of the various 4×4 systems available to them.”

All instructors are certified as 4×4 driving course instructors by the South Africa Qualification Authority. The Isuzu Off-Road Academy is also an accredited advanced driver training institution, and all successful candidates are issued with a certificate upon completion of the course.

“The Isuzu KB has become a familiar part of the South African driving landscape over the 34 years that we have been building it in Port Elizabeth. We are pleased to be able to offer a course which will enhance the Isuzu ownership experience for our customers,” said Mlungisi Nonkonyana, Isuzu Brand Manager at General Motors South Africa.

“The knowledge and experience gained through the Academy is vital to the safe operation of any 4×4 vehicle off the beaten track. With the new extended programme, a challenging and more practical setup will prove most effective in producing safer and more experienced drivers.”
