Land Rover Discovery Metropolitan Edition readying for urban battle

Like the Landmark, the Metropolitan Edition will be a limited run model, but at the top of the Discovery line-up.


Having introduced a streamlined line-up with the updated model recently, Land Rover has confirmed the availability of a new range-topping Discovery from the first half of next year.

Essentially a limited run model along the lines of the previous SE based Landmark, the Metropolitan Edition will be positioned above the now flagship HSE R-Dynamic, and mainly receives a series of exterior and interior additions.

As standard, the Metropolitan Edition rides on 22-inch alloy wheels.

Externally, these include gloss grey 22-inch diamond turned alloy wheels, black Land Rover badged brake calipers, a panoramic sunroof, an Atlas Grey grille and Discovery badges, privacy glass and an Hakuba Grey insert on the lower section of the rear bumper.

Inside, the changes are minimal and apart from building on the specification of the conventional HSE, items additionally added include a Heads-Up Display, heated steering wheel, the quad-zone climate control, a wireless smartphone charger and titanium mesh decorative detailing.

Interior changes are harder to spot than the exterior.

Up front, the Metropolitan Edition will offered in D300 and P360 guises, meaning motivation from either the 221kW/650Nm mild-hybrid 3.0 Ingenium straight-six turbodiesel, or the similarly sized in-line six electrified petrol that pumps out 265kW/500Nm.

While pricing is set to be confirmed later, expect the Metropolitan Edition to be dearer than the equivalent HSE R-Dynamic, which retails from R1 689 562 for the D300 and from R1 726 770 for the P360.
