Season finale National Extreme Festival promises action aplenty

With most of the relative championships still undecided, a spectacle is bound to happen this coming Saturday (13 October).


South Africa’s premier circuit racing show will conclude its activities at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on Saturday, when the venue will host the final round of the year’s National Extreme Festival.

A total of 94 entries will compete for eight separate South African titles, on four wheels and two.

GTC

Heading up proceedings will be two races for the Global Touring Cars (GTC), with Robert Wolk (Chemical Logistics BMW 128ti) and Saood Variawa (Gazoo Racing Toyota Corolla) set to finalise a season-long fight for supremacy.

Willing and able to interfere will be Andrew Rackstraw (Sparco Volkswagen Golf GTI), Julian van der Watt (Investchem Toyota Corolla), Michael van Rooyen (Gazoo Racing Toyota Corolla), Nathi Msimanga (Gazoo Racing Toyota Corolla) and Josh le Roux (Vitro Frameless Audi S3).

Polo madness

Bradley Liebenberg (Hype Energy) and Jonathan Mogotsi (Volkswagen Motorsport) will fight for the season’s SupaCup title, with little to choose between them.

Hoping to spoil their day will be drivers like Arnold Neveling (GOSCOR), Tate Bishop (Angri), Karah Hill (Kalex), Danie van Niekerk (Titan Stunts) and Andre’ Bezuidenhout.

The CompCare Polo Cup finale will see drivers like Charl Visser (Universal), Dawie van der Merwe (Nathan’s Motorsport), Anthony Pretorius (Bucketlist), Tyler Robinson (AF Fans) and Ethan Coetzee (JRT) in the mix.

Single-seaters

Troy Dolinschek (Sujean Mygale), Jason Coetzee (Mint Wrapworks Mygale), Gerard Geldenhuys (Abacus Mygale), Nicholas van Weely (Magnificent Paint Mygale), Siyabonga (Mankonkwana (Investchem Mygale), Antwan Geldenhuys (Abacus Mygale) and Alex Vos (Investchem Mygale) should fight for Investchem F1600 podium places. 

Supercars

Racing, but with their title only to be concluded at a future event, will be the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars.

Front runners should include Stuart White (Into Africa Aston Martin Vantage), Franco Scribante (Porsche 911 GT3), Jonathan du Toit (TAR Lamborghini Huracan), Charl Arangies (Stradale Mercedes-AMG GT), Arnold Neveling (Stradale Porsche 911 GT3) and Xolile Letlaka (Into Africa Lamborghini Huracan).

V8s

 Julian Familiaris (Lube-Net Chevrolet Corvette), Mackie Adlem (Adlem Auto Jaguar XK8), Thomas Reib (Mobil 1 Chevrolet Lumina), Franco di Matteo (Deltec Batteries Jaguar XK8), Warren Lombard (Bumper to Bumper Ford Falcon), Terry Wilford (Fuchs Ford Mustang) and Steve Herbst (Prei Instrumentation Chevrolet Corvette) will provide noisy, fast spectacle in the Mobil 1 Supercar races.

Two wheels

Greame van Breda (Stefanutti Stocks), Pieter de Vos (Jongingozi), Trevor Westman (Wayward), Jayson Lamb (Tyremart), Sfiso Themba (Wakahina), Johan le Roux (Avidan), Appanna Ganapathy (Art Technologies) and Jayson Lamb (Tyremart) should fight for SunBet Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup victories.

GR Cup

Sa’aad Variawa should wrap up the season’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Yaris League title chase, with his closest contestants Karah Hill, Taariq Adam, Bjorn Bertholdt, Ryan Naicker and Nikki Vostanis.

Setshaba Mashingo will be the man to beat in the GR86 League chased by fellow journalists Brendan Staniforth, The Citizen‘s Road Test editor Mark Jones, Denis Droppa, Chad Luckhoff, Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Senior Product Manager Riaan Esterhuysen and Toyota South Africa Motors’ Vice-President of Marketing, Glenn Crompton.

Starting times and prices

The Zwartkops gates will be open from 07h00, with racing to commence at 10h00. Admission will cost R130 per adult and R100 per student, while kids under the age of 12 will go in for free.

Food and drink will be on sale or you may take your own and everybody can visit the pits on foot at any time. The Zwartkops Mini Moke trains will run between the pit gate and the spectator areas throughout the day.
