Popular BMW race day returns to Tarlton
The BMW Car Club of Gauteng will revive a popular event of years gone by, the Tarlton Gymkhana and Sprint Challenge, on Sunday.
As in the past the event will be designed to test car’s performance and handling and driver talents. Competitors will get to tackle a combined gymkhana and drag racing course.
The tight and twisty gymkhana will be laid out in the Tarlton pit area, leading on to the drag strip, where drivers will race to the end of the measured 400 metres. All runs will be held against the clock with the knocking over of cones resulting in time penalties.
In the afternoon, if there is time, the venue will stage 800-metre top speed runs on the strip.
The event will be open to all kinds of cars with confirmed entries already including a Lamborghini Gallardo, various Porsches, an Audi R8 V10, a gaggle of Nissan GT-Rs, a Merc C 63 AMG and a wide variety of serious BMW derivatives. To enter will cost R400 per vehicle and drivers will need MSA licences, crash helmets and long sleeved clothing. Day licences will be on sale at R150.
The Tarlton gates will be open from 6.30am with driver registration at 7.30am, driver’s briefing at 8.00am and the runs starting shortly thereafter. The prize giving will start at 5pm.
