Scouting for young talent

"We are looking at developing young talented players who are going to feature in our u/21 and u/23 national teams."

Matsulu-born Bidvest Wits star player, Sandile Sibande, together with the Matsulu Community Development Association, will host an annual schools soccer tournament directed towards the development of the beautiful game.

Dubbed the Sandile Sibande Cup, this tourney will see local schools battling it out for the floating trophy and a host of prizes sponsored by Sibande, the Matsulu Development Association, and the Matsulu Executive FC u/12 coach, Aaron Hlahla.

According to the organisers, Sibande committed to sponsoring the tournament from his own pocket but hoped to attract many more sponsors in the future.

“We are not going to focus on high schools only, but we are going to try and involve the primary schools in the Ehlanzeni region. Our main aim is to help unearth talent at a very early stage and prepare them to be professional players of the future.

“We are looking at developing young talented players who are going to feature in our u/21 and u/23 national teams,” said Hlahla.

Sibande, who played for Matsulu Executive FC a while ago, will be the ambassador whose duties will range from training and coaching to giving motivational talks in a bid to warn youngsters against the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
