eThekwini Municipality warns of Metro Police job scam
There is no recruitment currently taking place, confirmed the eThekwini Municipality.
The eThekwini Municipality has warned the public about a bogus job advertisement for Metro Police circulating on social media platforms.
City spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, said the suspects involved in the scam were ‘unscrupulous individuals’.
“There is no recruitment that is taking place and we call upon the members of the public to assist in identifying these unscrupulous individuals hell-bent to fan disinformation to face the full might of the law,” he said.
The warning comes just weeks after Durban North SAPS warned of a scam where fraudsters posing as police officers, either from the provincial head office or the Durban North police station, tried to extort money from residents in the area.
Those targeted were informed they have a rape case against them and a warrant of arrest has been issued.
The alleged police officer would promise to assist them to evade arrest if they pay him an amount of money to the escort agency usually around the R3 000 mark.
