Ermelo police are investigating a double homicide that occurred in Wesselton yesterday.

Ambulance services responded to the scene, where two men with multiple gunshot wounds were declared dead on arrival.

Ermelo police spokesperson Captain Carla Prinsloo confirms that no suspects have been arrested.

“At this stage, we are unable to confirm a motive,” Prinsloo says. “Early indications suggest the individuals may have been targeted, but this is speculative as the investigation is still in its early stages. We hope to clarify the circumstances as more information becomes available.”

Murder at car wash

This incident follows the October 18 shooting of a 25-year-old man who was killed at a car wash in Cwebezela, Wesselton. Prinsloo reports the victim was sitting with friends when two armed men approached and shot him multiple times. The suspects fled in an unregistered VW Polo parked nearby.

Truck driver shot

In a separate incident, a truck driver was shot along the N2 around 02:40, near the Sheepmoor turnoff.

According to a Provincial Ambulance Services paramedic, the driver, who had presumably stopped to rest, was shot in the leg during an armed robbery. He reported being startled by a noise and confronted by an armed suspect who, along with three others, stole eight wheels from the truck.

The driver was admitted to Ermelo Provincial Hospital in stable condition.
