Murdered Mbombela doctor identified

The family of the doctor who was shot three times while heading into her gym in Mpumalanga says no more details will be shared for now.

A 34-year-old doctor who was shot and killed in the parking lot at Virgin Active in Riverside in Mbombela in Mpumalanga has been identified by her family.

Nondumiso Sibanyoni, who was employed at Rob Ferreira Hospital, was killed by unknown assailants earlier today.

One of her relatives, Sydney Nkosi, says no more details will be given at this stage as police are investigating the shooting.

He says the family has requested privacy while dealing with the loss of their loved one.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli says Nelspruit police are investigating the shooting.

He adds that the doctor was shot by unknown people when she was on her way into the gym.

“The victim parked her car and got out. As she was walking towards the gym, a Toyota Starlet drove towards her. One of the assailants got out of the vehicle and shot the woman three times before fleeing the scene. Nothing was stolen from her.”

ER24 paramedics declared Sibanyoni dead on the scene.
