A 33-year-old man is set to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today for contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.

Polokwane Review reports the Limpopo Organised Crime Investigation Unit arrested the man on Friday morning after receiving a tip-off about a suspect selling steroids in the Bendor area.

“The suspect, residing in the Blue Heaven Estate, allegedly sourced the steroids online for distribution. A search warrant was executed at his residence, where various types of unregistered tablets, syringes, and other liquid substances were recovered from his garage,” says provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Ledwaba adds the confiscated items included Schedule 4 and Schedule 5 drugs, which can only be prescribed by a medical practitioner with a valid prescription.

The provincial Department of Health and other relevant stakeholders were present at the scene to assist with the investigation.

“The estimated value of the seized medication is approximately R300 000,” Ledwaba concludes.
