Man to appear in court after 6 killed in Reiger Park shooting
A 23-year-old man accused of a deadly mass shooting that killed six people and injured three others is due in a Boksburg court today.
A 23-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the mass shooting that claimed the lives of six people and left three others injured on Saturday evening is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court today.
According to the Boksburg Advertiser, the shootings occurred at around 18:50 across several streets in the area, including William Street, Stanbury Road, Regent Street and Martin du Preez Street.
Suspect apprehended after intensive investigation
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that police apprehended the suspect on Monday night following an intensive investigation by the Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit (AGU).
Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana praised the unit for its swift response and thanked the community for assisting the investigators.
“From our engagements with you, we can see that you have heard our plea to co-operate and work with the police to rid our communities of criminal elements,” said Kekana.
He encouraged residents to continue sharing information that could help police dismantle gangs and other criminal networks operating in the East Rand.
Separate drug arrest in Reiger Park
In a separate operation on the same evening, another AGU team arrested a 62-year-old man for possession of drugs while conducting patrols in Reiger Park.
According to the police, the man had 14 ziplock bags containing methcathinone, 43 Mandrax tablets and 105 half Mandrax tablets. He will appear in court soon.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious or criminal activity by calling the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or by submitting anonymous tip-offs via the MySAPS app.
