Watch: Dashcam footage shows Vanderbijlpark taxi crash that killed 12 schoolchildren

Dashcam footage of the R553 crash involving a taxi and truck that killed 12 schoolchildren in Vanderbijlpark is circulating online.

Shocking dashcam footage is spreading like wildfire on social media of the horrific crash in which 12 schoolchildren tragically lost their lives on Monday morning on the R553 in Vanderbijlpark.

According to Vaalweekblad, the 22-year-old driver of the minibus taxi has since been arrested after his discharge from hospital and is expected to appear today or tomorrow in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on 12 charges of culpable homicide and reckless driving.

Sedibeng Ster reports that Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi confirmed during a media briefing at the Sedibeng West District offices in Sebokeng that the driver was operating with an expired Professional Driving Permit (PDP). Police investigations have confirmed that the driver’s PDP expired in November last year.

It remains unclear who initially circulated the video. The footage corroborates eyewitness accounts that the driver attempted to overtake several taxis before colliding head-on with a tipper truck.

Warning: The footage may be upsetting to senstive viewers
