Five people, including a minor, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court following the rape and kidnapping of an e-hailing driver. 
 
The adult accused, aged 23, 34, 42 and 48, appeared in court on Monday (September 14), while the 16-year-old minor appeared yesterday (September 15). Two of the accused are women. 
 
Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said all five accused are charged with rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, extortion and kidnapping. 
 
The case has been postponed to Monday (September 21). 

Driver targeted through business contact 

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, the 25-year-old driver met one of the women through his business before exchanging numbers to arrange a meeting. 

She added that when they met on Saturday (September 12), the driver was kidnapped him and reportedly raped. 

Ransom demand leads to discovery 

Steenberg police were alerted by the victim’s brother who was contacted, allegedly by the suspects, demanding R4 000 cash for his release. 

“They located the victim through his vehicle tracker and found him in Heathfield,” Gwala said.
