Motorists urged to avoid Pta CBD on Wednesday

Students will be marching to the Department of Higher Education and Training building from 10:00 till late afternoon.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the Pretoria CBD on Wednesday due to a student protest, Rekord East reports.

The South African Student Congress will be marching to the Department of Higher Education and Training building from 10:00 till late afternoon, Tshwane metro police said.

Marchers will gather from 10:00 at Burgers Park and move to the Department of Higher Education and Training, said metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendant Isaac Mahamba.

“From Burgers Park they will join Lilian Ngoyi Street, turn left into Pretorius Street, then left into Sophie de Bruyn Street and then left into Francis Baard Street, and proceed straight until they reach the Department of Higher Education and Training.”

He said the following streets will be also be affected:

– Visagie Street
– Nana Sita Street
– Thabo Sehume Street
– Paul Kruger Street
– Bosman Street

The marchers are expected to hand over a memorandum at 12:30 and disperse at 13:30.

Tshwane Metro Police officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.

Mahamba advised motorists to use the following routes:

– Sisulu Street
– Johannes Ramokoase Street
– WF Nkomo Street
– Madiba Street
