WATCH: Pedestrian mowed down by speeding taxi driver north of Joburg

The man, who survived, was knocked down on Olive Road while trying to cross the road in peak traffic. The taxi can be seen driving extremely fast on the wrong side of the narrow road.

A pedestrian was run down by a minibus taxi being driven on the wrong side of Olive Road on Monday, Randburg Sun reports.

Sharonlea CPF Sector 1 chairperson Des Pillay, who was on the scene of the incident, said, “A man was hit by a taxi that was driving on the oncoming lane. The taxi driver did stop and waited for the police to arrive.”

Pillay said that emergency management services and the police arrived promptly on the scene. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera and was shared with the community.

According to Pillay, the pedestrian survived the accident and is currently being treated in hospital.
