Officer shoots pregnant girlfriend, then himself
A case of attempted murder and an inquest docket have been opened at KwaDabeka Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal after a police officer shot his girlfriend before committing suicide.
KwaDabeka police spokesperson Warrant Officer Sibusiso Ngcobo said the police officer had an argument with his girlfriend, who was eight-months pregnant, before he shot her on Wednesday,Highway Mail reported.
The 22-year-old woman was rushed to RK Khan Hospital in a critical condition.
It is unknown what the argument was about at this stage, as the victim struggled to speak, said Ngcobo.
The pregnant girlfriend was shot in the left side of her neck, and the bullet exited her right shoulder, added police.
“He then turned his service pistol on himself, shooting himself in the head. He died at the scene,” said Ngcobo.
Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, Garsfontein police Constable Ali Nkuna allegedly shot and killed a woman believed to be his former girlfriend and her current lover, before turning the gun on himself in December.
The 31-year-old woman was allegedly standing at the gate with her 29-year-old boyfriend when Nkuna approached them with a firearm.
Police spokesperson Doniah Mothutsane said the constable shot the woman’s boyfriend before chasing the woman to a bedroom.
It was alleged the woman locked herself in the bedroom and Constable Nkuna jumped through the bedroom window and shot her three times in the upper body.
“The woman was carrying her two-year-old son the separated couple had together at the time, and one bullet struck the child in the right cheek,” said Mothutsane.
“He then shot himself in the right upper ear and died on the scene,” added Mothutsane.
